Silverfit

Update and Blog post from Eddie

Hi All

It’s been so long since I last wrote a blog up-dating on Silverfit. What a tough time it has been for all of us but at least we are beginning to see some light? Although as I write this, I am isolating due to a ping!

So firstly, Pete Elliott, our Operations Manager has written an activity update:

“Silverfit is now operating across 10 London boroughs, where we are currently running sessions offering Nordic Walking, Walking Football, Yoga and Tai Chi.

A Tai Chi session has just started up outdoors in Crystal Palace Park on a Thursday and we are working to start more outdoor sessions and activities at other venues.

We hope to gradually restart indoor sessions soon. We need to be confident that it is safe for our members to do so, and also, we want to wait until the risk of closing down again soon after restarting is reduced further. We will keep our website up-to-date in terms of re-starts, and will send out a weekly email for the next few weeks.  We are also looking to expand our activities into new areas such as Camden and Kingston”.

Secondly, Susanne, our “in-house” photographer has a fascinating exhibition coming up at the National Army Museum in London (National Army Museum, Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea, SW3 4HT).

The exhibition “Long Shadows of war” is part of her ongoing project “Don’t mention the war” that investigates how the Third Reich has impacted Germany and its people until today. It is running from

Wednesday August 11th – Sunday, August 29th. I can assure you it is a really emotional project and I had never looked at the war from the perspective of the German families she interviewed.

Entry is free but you need to book a timed slot: https://nam.tickets.red61.com/performances.php?eventId=413:403 . But there is also a Private View, August 12th, 2021. You can visit the exhibition until 5:30pm and then join Susanne and I for a drink to celebrate her exhibition at Battersea Park afterwards (just a 20-minute walk away over the Thames. I’ll bring some Prosecco!) Susanne has suggested that in case of bad weather there will be an alternative location). So if you’d like to join us RSVP at [email protected] by Monday, August 9th and she will send more detailed information on the private viewing on August 10th).

Susanne will also be at the museum to  Meet the artist on August 19th (1pm-5:30pm) and August 29th (10am-2pm) and she would be very happy to have a chat and answer any questions.

And finally, about 28 of us are in final stages of preparation for the Big Half on August 22nd . This half marathon race has been a great source of income for Silverfit in the past so if you know anyone doing it for Silverfit, feel free to sponsor them.

Or you could also sponsor me? Here is the Just Giving Link https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Edwina-Brocklesby78, and that way Silverfit gets Gift Aid too if you click the GiftAid option please.
